Booster Pump Versus Tank Stand - Which One Should You Use?
1. Need for electricity.
Tank Stand: A tank stand uses gravity for water to flow from the tank to the house so there’s no need for electricity.
Booster Pump: A booster pump uses electricity. So if there’s a power cut you would have to use a generator or solar system to power the booster pump.
2. Pressure.
Tank stand: Water supplied using gravity has less pressure compared to water supplied using a booster pump.
Booster pump: Water supplied via a booster pump has more pressure compared to gravity feed from a tank stand.
3. Maintenance Costs
Tank Stand: Once you install a tank stand you will not have to do any repair or maintenance work for years.
Booster Pump: A complete booster pump system has various components. They are susceptible to power cuts, lightning, power surges, general wear and tear. And so you will need to repair or replace some of these components starting from after 12 – 18 months.
4. Height fed.
Tank stand: With a tank stand you can only supply water to points which are lower than the platform of the stand. For example; if you have a double-storey house with a solar geyser on the roof you will need a stand that’s higher than 7 metres. Such a stand will cost more than a standard 4-metre stand which feeds into a single storey.
Booster pump: A 1hp booster pump has ahead of 35 metres meaning it can pump water up to a height of 35 metres. This can feed water into most 8 storey buildings.
